Sri Petaling - Now & Then
From Landfill To A Vibrant Commercial & F&B Destination
The development of Bandar Baru Sri Petaling began in 1977 and was completed in 1981. It was previously known as the 'rubbish area' from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s because it was the site of a landfill.
Garbage collection was phased off, and the land was repurposed into a playground and parking lot for the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
The portions of Jalan Puteri Senggang along the main road, Jalan Wan Empok 1 and Jalan Wan Empok 2 in Sri Petaling were the first to be constructed for residential usage.
In the 1980s, these were Sri Petaling's primary residential neighbourhoods, with properties selling for between RM40,000 and RM60,000. Sri Petaling did not have a large population in the early 1980s since it was remote from Kuala Lumpur and a little isolated.
In the late 1980s, the population increased. The population continued to grow, and development continued throughout the next decade. The Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS) was completed in 1997 and the Maju Expressway (MEX) was completed in 2007. Residents can access the city centre, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport through the highway.
